What If I Do Nothing?

Ignoring a minor dental issue might seem like the most budget-friendly option, but the truth of the matter is that dental problems only get worse over time. Eventually, a small cavity becomes a large one, and a cracked tooth completely breaks, calling for much more extensive care. To protect both your smile and your wallet, it’s smart to repair any teeth as soon as possible, because the alternative is never positive!

Dental Crowns

Rather than extracting teeth that have developed extensive decay or been severely damaged, we can cover the remaining healthy enamel with a dental crown. Our crowns are custom-made to look, feel, and function just like natural teeth, and they can save a patient from having to deal with the hassle or expense of replacing a missing tooth. And, thanks to our technology, you can get a high-quality crown in just one appointment.

What Is A Dental Crown & How Do I Know I Need A Crown?

A dental crown is a custom-made restoration that is matched to your natural tooth color, size, and shape and is designed to protect a weakened tooth that is decayed or damaged. Also known as a “cap,” these are best used when a tooth:

  • Has been damaged in some way
  • Is severely decayed
  • Has a large filling that is no longer allowing the tooth to remain stable
  • Recently received a root canal
  • Is in need of restoration after having a dental implant put into place

The Dental Crown Process

It takes two visits to receive a dental crown. During the first visit, Dr. Soto will examine your smile before administering anesthesia to make you more comfortable. After cleaning the affected tooth and removing all signs of decay, it will be filled with composite resin to seal the tooth from further reinfection or damage.

It is necessary to file down the tooth to ensure a proper fit once the crown is put into place, so after your tooth is properly prepped, he will take impressions of your tooth and send them off to a dental lab. Technicians will then begin to work to create your custom crown based on the specifications provided by you and your dentist.

You will receive a temporary crown to wear until you return to our dental office to have it removed and the finalized restoration put into place.

What Are The Benefits Of Dental Crowns?

It should come as no surprise that dental crowns offer various benefits, especially since they’ve been used by dental professionals for decades, if not longer. Some of the advantages of choosing a dental crown to protect your weakened tooth include:

  • Improved appearance
  • Increased confidence
  • Natural smile aesthetic
  • Improved oral health by keeping infection out
  • A longer-lasting restoration you can enjoy for a decade or longer
  • Easily maintained with regular brushing, flossing, rinsing, and frequent visits to see us
  • Allows your natural tooth to regain its strength while remaining protected

Tooth-Colored Fillings

If you come to see us with a small cavity, rather than repairing it like other dental offices with a dark gray amalgam that will instantly stick out in your smile, we’ll instead use a composite resin filling. These can be shaded to blend in with your enamel, plus the material bonds much more firmly to teeth compared to older metal fillings, creating a stronger and more reliable repair. Even better, they also don’t cause temperature sensitivity like regular fillings as well!

One Visit Dental Restorations

It used to take at least two appointments spaced a week apart to get a dental crown, but now we’ve streamlined the process down to a single visit. Using CEREC technology, we can scan your tooth, digitally design your crown, mill it right in the dental office, and place it the same day. This system can create crowns on par with any made by an outside lab, and because we do everything ourselves, making any necessary adjustments only takes a few minutes as well.
